Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish believes that "level-headed" Roy Hodgson is the ideal manager to take the club forward, having recently signed a new contract.

Chairman Steve Parish has insisted that Crystal Palace will not take their Premier League status for granted and believes that the club will remain stable in the capable hands of Roy Hodgson.

The Eagles awarded Hodgson with a contract extension on the eve the new campaign, keeping the ex-England boss in place at Selhurst Park until the end of the 2019-20 season.

Parish is pleased that the popular 71-year-old has agreed to stay on beyond the end of the current season, admitting that Hodgson is key to Palace's long-term success in the top flight.

"He can help our football club, in my opinion, beyond just the first XI and into the future," he told Sky Sports News. "I do hope we can maintain a very long relationship with Roy because he is a fantastic football person, very level-headed and he brings a lot to the football club.

"Staying in this division is ground zero, but of course we've got a few things that we haven't had in recent years, like stability, we've gone through a summer with a manager - I've managed to keep a manager for the summer - and the place feels really good.

"But we know that's sometimes when things can come to bite you. We're really not complacent, we're working super hard, and going to give this season our best shot to at least have less stress this season."

Palace beat Fulham 2-0 in their opening league game and face Liverpool in their next outing on Monday evening.
