Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis eyes new goalkeeper

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis admits that he could bring in a new goalkeeper before the loan transfer window closes.

Crewe Alexandra boss Steve Davis has revealed that he wants to sign a goalkeeper before Thursday's loan deadline.

First-choice shot-stopper Ben Garratt is expected to be injured for the rest of the season, while Paul Rachubka is currently the only available backup.

With Crewe looking to avoid relegation from League One, Davis admits that he may be forced to bring in another goalkeeper on a temporary deal.

"I'm sure we will have more discussions this week and the only position we will look to do something is with the goalkeeper situation," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"We only have Paul at the moment and cannot run the risk of going with just him in the last eight games. We need to have that cover there and we would look to get one who would really challenge for the number-one spot."

Crewe are currently in the League One relegation zone on goal difference.
