Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis unhappy with "horrific" defending

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis describes the goals his side let in against Bury today as "horrific", citing poor defensive displays as his side's main problem.

Crewe Alexandra manager Steve Davis was disappointed by the goals that his team conceded in this afternoon's 3-3 draw with Bury.

Crewe led twice in the first half but went into the break level at 2-2, needing an 80th-minute Brad Inman strike to bring them back to 3-3 after Danny Rose gave the away side the lead.

"I thought the football was good, the ball retention was good and we were patient, it was a bit slower than I would like but we got in the pockets much more in the second half and looked better," the 50-year-old Davis told reporters after the final whistle.

"But the goals against were horrific, I've no explanation for some of the decisions that we've made, that's certainly not how we've practiced in the week and so that's something we'll have to work on in the week.

"We've scored five in two games and only got one point. If we're going to score that amount of goals we need to be winning games. We've got to keep clean sheets and minimising attempts against us and we're just not doing that. Teams are looking dangerous against us and we're not doing our jobs defensively."

Crewe sit just above the relegation zone in 20th place following today's draw.
