Thierry Henry netted a brace as New York Red Bulls beat Colorado Rapids 4-1 and recorded their first points of the MLS season.

The Frenchman opened the scoring after just three minutes as he coolly slotted below the visitors' goalkeeper Matt Pickens.

Red Bulls were two up inside six minutes after Henry provided a subtle through pass for Kenny Cooper, who fired low beyond the helpless Pickens.

It was an even game at Red Bull Arena but the home side's superior finishing proved the vital difference.

After Jaime Castrillon and Tony Cascio had failed to make the most of good chances, Henry ended the game as a contest eight minutes after half time.

The Arsenal legend controlled a whipped Wilman Conde free kick and unleashed a stinging right-footed strike into the bottom right corner.

Omar Cummings pulled a goal back for Colorado 13 minutes from time, before Cooper grabbed his second of the game in the 89th minute with a close-range tap-in.

Henry almost completed his hattrick in stoppage time, but his low left-footed shot was well saved by Picken.
