Tom de Sutter, Lior Refaelov score to give Club Brugge victory over Besiktas

Club Brugge come from behind to defeat Besiktas 2-1 in the Europa League round of 16.

Club Brugge came from behind to beat Besiktas 2-1 in the first leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie this evening.

After a quiet opening 15 minutes of the match, Necip Uysal's shot was off target following Oguzhan Ozyakup's corner.

Davy De Fauw had the best chance of the first half, but his shot from inside the area was scuffed to ensure that neither keeper had to make a save before the half-time whistle.

Gokhan Tore brought the match to life a minute after the restart, dribbling past two players before scoring inside the near post to give Besiktas the lead.

Demba Ba then tried to make an impact, having two shots blocked and one off target in the space of three minutes.

Tom de Sutter broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute, after Felipe Gedoz's long-range effort was deflected into the net by the striker.

Club Brugge pushed for a winner soon after as Laurens de Bock was denied by Cenk Gonen, and Lior Refaelov missed the target.

The Belgians did take the lead in the 79th minute, after Serdar Kurtulus fouled Gedoz inside the area and Refaelov dispatched the penalty past Gonen.

Besiktas made just one attempt on goal in the closing stages, as Kerim Frei forced Matt Ryan into a save.
