Chesterfield reject Tendayi Darikwa offer

An unnamed Championship club has failed with a bid for Chesterfield right-back Tendayi Darikwa.

Manchester United and Everton have both been linked with the 23-year-old in the past, but it was a team in the second tier of English football that has lodged the most recent bid for his services.

However, chief executive Chris Turner has revealed that the offer "was well short" of the club's valuation.

"[Manager Dean Saunders] and I had a chat with Tendayi and explained that we had rejected the approach as it was well short of our valuation of him," Turner told the club's official website.

"Tendayi is understandably keen to play at a higher level but he understands that we would only considering selling him if we received an offer that we were unable to refuse."

Darikwa has 12 months left to run on his contract at Proact Stadium.
