Report: John Obi Mikel to stay at Chelsea

John Obi Mikel will reportedly now remain with Chelsea this summer having initially been expected to leave Stamford Bridge.

John Obi Mikel will reportedly remain with Chelsea this summer after the London club failed to generate much interest in the midfielder's services.

The Nigerian had been expected to seek pastures new following the arrival of Cesc Fabregas this summer, while Nemanja Matic's January signature also pushed Mikel down the pecking order.

However, according to the Evening Standard, there has not been much solid interest in the defensive midfielder, with Chelsea now preparing to hold on to the 27-year-old.

Mikel joined Chelsea from Lyn in 2006.
