Harry Redknapp has admitted that Luka Modric isn't happy at Spurs and conceded that he would have preferred a move to Chelsea.
There was intense speculation over the Croatian midfielder's future over the summer as the Blues pursued the 25-year-old, even lodging a reported £40m bid in the remaining hours of the recent transfer window.
Despite Chelsea’s pursuit, Modric will remain at White Hart Lane until the next window in January.
"I could sit here and say, 'Yeah, he's glad he never went to Chelsea, he's glad he didn't get all that money, he is much happier now', [but] I would be talking rubbish," said Redknapp.
"I don't know how he feels but he is here and we get on with it now. I had always been brought up with the belief that if you didn't want a player you would move them on and bring in someone who does.
"I was of that opinion in the end. I thought, 'If Luka doesn't want to be here then take £40million and we'll all move on'. But I love him as a player. I'm delighted he's still here."
Meanwhile, Spurs are preparing for a trip to face Wolverhampton Wanderers tomorrow (Saturday).
