Liverpool are reportedly still exploring a potential transfer for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Matheus Nunes.

Liverpool are reportedly still interested in signing Matheus Nunes despite a release clause being removed from his Wolverhampton Wanderers contract.

The Reds were linked with the 24-year-old before he joined Wolves in a club-record £38m transfer from Sporting Lisbon last summer.

Since completing the move, Nunes has featured regularly in the Wolves side, starting 22 of his 25 Premier League appearances.

Nunes has a contract until June 2027 with an option for a further year, but there is already speculation that he could leave in the near future.

In a bid to keep hold of the Portugal international, Wolves have removed a £44m release clause from the player's contract.

Recent speculation has suggested that the removal of the release clause would end Liverpool's pursuit of the Wolves midfielder.

However, according to Football Insider, the Reds are still working on a potential deal to bring Nunes to Anfield in the upcoming transfer window.

Wolves are currently involved in a relegation battle, and as a result, they are realistic about their chances of fending off interest this summer.

With Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave on free transfers at the end of the season, Liverpool are keen to strengthen their midfield, and they may decide to launch a bid to sign Nunes.

Jurgen Klopp's side could land Nunes this summer if they meet Wolves' asking price, which is believed to be £50m.

Liverpool have also been linked with a number of other midfield targets, including Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham.

Brighton & Hove Albion's Moises Caicedo and Chelsea's Mason Mount, who has entered the final 18 months of his contract, are also on Liverpool's radar.

The Reds occupy ninth place in the Premier League table, and they are currently preparing to face league leaders Arsenal on Sunday.
