Chelsea have reportedly been given a major boost in their attempt to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer this summer.
The 22-year-old, who has been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, is out of contract at the end of this season.
Donnarumma's current club AC Milan have only won five of their last 10 games in Serie A, leaving them at risk of not qualifying for next year's Champions League, sitting only four points ahead of Napoli in fifth.
Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Milan's talks over a new contract with the Italian international have stalled, with the possibility of missing out on Champions League football proving to be a big stumbling block.
Despite already having Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga in his squad, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is very keen on taking advantage of the contract situation and signing the youngster this summer on a free transfer.
Donnarumma has kept 83 clean sheets in 243 appearances for his boyhood team, having broken into the side at the age of 16.
