Xabi Alonso is reportedly requesting a new two-year contract to remain at Real Madrid.
The Spanish midfielder's current contract expires at the end of the season and thus far talks over a new deal have stalled due to a number of issues.
According to Marca, Alonso wants parity with the tier of earners below Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas, while the deal has become a priority for Madrid following the long-term injury to Sami Khedira.
A number of European clubs, including Chelsea and Juventus, are believed to be interested in acquiring his services next summer.
