How Chelsea could line up against Newcastle United

Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up in Monday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Chelsea will be looking to continue their impressive form under new head coach Thomas Tuchel when they welcome Newcastle United to Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

The Blues have won four and drawn one of their five matches since the German's arrival, including three victories in the Premier League to move into fifth position in the table.

The capital side also booked their spot in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Thursday evening courtesy of a 1-0 victory away to Championship outfit Barnsley.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Chelsea could line up against Steve Bruce's side.

Chelsea will again be without the services of experienced defender Thiago Silva due to a muscular problem, while Kai Havertz remains a doubt for the Blues due to a knock.

Timo Werner is expected to overcome a dead leg in time for the contest, though, with the Germany international in line to start on the left of a front three.

Mason Mount is also likely to start, but there could be a change at the tip of the attack from the win over Sheffield United on February 7, with Tammy Abraham, who was on the scoresheet against Barnsley, potentially getting the nod over Olivier Giroud.

Andreas Christensen will keep his spot at the back due to Silva's absence, while Ben Chilwell could again get the nod over Marcos Alonso as the left-sided wing-back.

The other main talking point comes in midfield, where Tuchel must pick two from N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic; Kante made his first start under the new manager against Barnsley, and he could now come into the starting XI alongside Jorginho, with Kovacic potentially dropping to the bench.

Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi could therefore all start on the bench, which is an indication of the quality of the options available to the head coach.
