Ray Wilkins urges Chelsea not to sack Jose Mourinho

Ray Wilkins urges Chelsea to keep hold of manager Jose Mourinho following a poor start to the season.

Former Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins has urged the club to keep hold of manager Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach's future has come into question in the last few weeks following the Blues' torrid start to the season.

Chelsea are currently 15th in the Premier League table following five defeats, two draws and just three victories.

Some reports have claimed that Mourinho could be sacked if his side do not claim a victory in this afternoon's league clash against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

When asked on BT Sport's Matchday Live what Chelsea should do with Mourinho, Wilkins said: "Keep him, of course. Who could come in? There's only two out there that could fit the criteria at Chelsea - [Carlo] Ancelotti and [Pep] Guardiola.

"Why get rid of him? The team's going through a tough period. They had a late pre-season. You'll find as the season progresses, their performances will improve come Christmas time.

"I don't think [owner] Roman Abramovich for one minute wants to get rid of Jose at this moment in time."

Mourinho signed a new four-year contract at Chelsea in August.
