Liverpool have moved up to seventh in the Premier League table after coming from behind to secure a 3-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Ramires gave the home side an early lead, but Philippe Coutinho netted a brace before Christian Benteke added a third late on.

The result is Chelsea's sixth defeat of the Premier League season, leaving the side just five points clear of the relegation zone.

Was the result fair?

With the exception of the first 10 minutes, during which Liverpool were rather shaky, the visitors always looked the stronger of the two sides. Once Coutinho got Jurgen Klopp's side back on level terms, Chelsea never looked like retaking the lead. Liverpool had more of the ball, created more with it and defended better across the 90 minutes, so they absolutely deserved the three points.

Chelsea's performance

The home side started brilliantly, opening the scoring with their first attack of the match, but Chelsea were too happy to sit back after taking the lead, creating few chances during the remainder of the match. The defenders never looked completely settled, with Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma both making mistakes, while John Terry looked weary towards the end of the match. Diego Costa continually got drawn into a battle with Martin Skrtel, which could have further implications for the Spaniard as he appeared to kick out at the defender. The performance fell short of expectations for Jose Mouinho's side this afternoon, with too many players making a limited contribution.

Liverpool's performance

The visitors looked nervous early on, leaving far too much room at the back to gift Chelsea an early goal, but they responded brilliantly, dominating possession throughout and continually stretching the Chelsea defence. James Milner looked like he was struggling at times in the middle, but Coutinho and Adam Lallana proved a lively pairing up front, while Christian Benteke's appearance off the bench helped them see it out. Discipline could have been an issue, with the side finishing with four yellow cards, while Lucas was a touch lucky not to pick up a second, but it was the best all-round performance from Liverpool in quite a while.

Philippe Coutinho: Coutinho was easily the best player on the pitch for the visitors this afternoon, continually running at the Chelsea goal while unleashing a string of shots and providing balls for his teammates. The Brazilian's finish on the stroke of half time was brilliant, and he was unlucky not to secure a hat-trick late on as Asmir Begovic denied him a third in the final minutes of the match.

Biggest gaffe

There were plenty of errors at the back from Chelsea, but probably the biggest mistake came at the other end as Alberto Moreno left Ramires wide open to open the scoring just four minutes in. Conceding so early could have really cost his side.

Referee performance

There was a lot for Mark Clattenburg to keep his eyes on this afternoon, but there were a few things that were missed by the officials. The visitors could have had a penalty in the first half when John Terry appeared to handle the ball on the edge of the box, although there was some suggestion that it may have just been outside the 18-yard area. There could also have been a red card for each side, as Lucas was lucky to stay on after making a reckless challenge having already been booked, while Costa could yet face retrospective action for kicking out at Skrtel.
