Fernando Torres has claimed that he learned valuable lessons while sitting on the bench for Chelsea last season.

The Spanish striker struggled to make an impact during his first full campaign at Stamford Bridge following a £50m move from Liverpool.

"All I know was that I learnt to try harder, in a team full of stars, and understand that everything I had done in the past [with Liverpool] counted for little," he told La Razon. "I grew a lot from that experience."

Torres scored for the Blues in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield.
