John Terry: 'Diego Costa quality never in doubt'

Chelsea centre-back John Terry insists that frontman Diego Costa's quality has never been in doubt despite his tough run of form in the Premier League.

Chelsea defender John Terry has insisted that his side never doubted frontman Diego Costa despite the Spaniard's tough run of form this season.

Costa has struggled for goals this term after originally impressing up top last season, but the 27-year-old did prove to be in good shape as he grabbed a vital goal to give the Blues victory over Norwich City in the Premier League on Saturday.

Following the win, Terry has since leapt to his teammate's defence by suggesting that the striker has always had the necessary quality to lead the club's attacking line.

"Pressure was not building on Diego Costa. Not when strikers are getting into those positions to score goals," Terry told the club's official website.

"Diego is a great finisher and it will always come. If he is not getting in those positions for the chances, then I think it is a problem. But he was there on Saturday.

"He was unlucky with a couple in the first half, but it was a great finish from him in the second half."

Chelsea currently occupy 15th place in the league standings after 13 games played.
