Manuel Pellegrini takes dig at title-winners Chelsea

Manuel Pellegrini wants to see Manchester City finish the campaign in second place in the Premier League in order to build ahead of next season.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has taken a swipe at Premier League title winners Chelsea after seeing his side strengthen their hold on second place.

The Citizens beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at White Hart Lane this evening courtesy of Sergio Aguero's first-half strike.

Victory for Chelsea earlier in the day ensured that they wrapped up their fourth Premier League crown, but Pellegrini was quick to remind Jose Mourinho that City scored more goals on their way to the title 12 months ago.

"I said before we were going to see a beautiful game because both teams play offensive football so I expect the fans enjoyed the game," he told BBC Sport. "It was a close game and Sergio scored a great goal. I am happy about that.

"You must remember against Tottenham that Chelsea conceded five goals, we have a clean sheet. Tottenham create chances with offensive players, but I think we have as many chances as Tottenham. We have to finish the season now and then we will analyse it.

"I think it's important to finish as near the top as possible and see where we need to improve. Maybe Chelsea are more consistent this year and they won the league but we scored more when we did it."

Man City face Queens Park Rangers, Swansea City and Southampton in their final three fixtures of the season.
