Jose Mourinho: 'Tougher stance on Financial Fair Play regulations needed'

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho believes that taking away points and titles is a bigger deterrent than fines when it comes to breaking Financial Fair Play regulations.

Jose Mourinho has called on UEFA for a stricter stance on the Financial Fair Play regulations, believing that points and titles should be taken away if the rules are broken.

The Chelsea boss feels that taking away points from a club is more costly than paying fines, which some teams can more easily afford.

"Are the fines fair? I don't think so. In my opinion the first thing to do would be to remove points and remove titles," the 51-year-old said, according to Sky Sports News.

"If you have important capital which allows you to overcome financial fair play, if you win titles and then you are fined economically, you keep doing the same thing.

"But if you're stating that you'll start the next Champions League with six points fewer, or you won't play in the next edition of the Champions League and will go into the Europa League instead, it is more serious."

Manchester City, who face Chelsea this Sunday at the Etihad, were fined £50m by UEFA but only have to pay under half of the total if they adhere to the break-even rules.
