It came as little surprise that Andre Villas-Boas was relieved of his duties as a manager of Chelsea earlier today.
The Portuguese boss had reportedly struggled to win over the supporters and players during his nine-month stint at Stamford Bridge.
Former Chelsea midfielder Roberto Di Matteo has been put in charge until the end of the season, but that hasn't stopped speculation from commencing about who will take over the helm in the summer.
With that in mind, Sports Mole has taken a look at the early contenders.
Rafael Benitez
It is no secret that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is keen to see the Blues lift the Champions League trophy, something that may work in Benitez's favour. The Spaniard guided Liverpool to the trophy in 2005, while he had a good record in the competition during his time with Valencia. However, he failed to deliver the Premier League title to Anfield and that could count against him.

Jose Mourinho
Over the past few weeks Chelsea fans have made it known who they want to take over at Stamford Bridge. Jose Mourinho's name has rung out at Stamford Bridge as speculation regarding his future at Real Madrid continues to gather pace. Mourinho, who won two league titles during his first spell with Chelsea, is known to still be in contact with several members of the playing squad. The Portuguese would certainly be the people's choice.

Roberto Di Matteo
The Italian is a popular figure among the Stamford Bridge faithful. However, he has a distinct lack of managerial experience at the top level which could count against him. He is on trial until the end of the season and should he impress, Abramovich could be tempted by the cheaper option.

Pep Guardiola
Guardiola has so far yet to commit his future to Barcelona and as a result will be a free agent in the summer. Having guided Barca to 13 trophies since taking over in 2008, his success could see him receive a call from Abramovich. Sources in Spain in recent weeks have suggested that Guardiola would like to try his hand at management in England. Whether he is ready to give up on Barca just yet remains to be seen.

Fabio Capello
Like Bentiez, Capello can boast success in the Champions League on his CV. Having managed England, the Italian boss would go into the job with a broad knowledge of the English players and the Premier League. Capello is believed to be happy living in London and has previously said that he would be keen on a return to club management.
