Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has reportedly moved a step closer to leaving Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid, with his medical now set for Wednesday.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has moved a step closer to leaving Stamford Bridge for Atletico Madrid, with his medical now set for Wednesday, according to a report.

The Blues are having another busy summer with several new faces arriving in West London, while a fair few have also moved on.

Since Todd Boehly took over in May 2022, the Premier League giants have splashed out more than £1bn in transfer fees, which includes just over £100m this summer.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Estevao Willian both cost the Blues almost £60m combined, while Omari Kellyman, Caleb Wiley and Marc Guiu are also among the new arrivals.

Meanwhile, the club has bid farewell to the likes of Ian Maatsen, Lewis Hall, Omari Hutchinson and Thiago Silva, and it seems that Gallagher's departure is now imminent.

Conor Gallagher move to Madrid imminent

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the England international's medical with Atletico Madrid is now set for Wednesday, August 7.

Romano added "After late-night exclusive news on his green light to Atleti, there's ok for his move from clubs."

It is understood that Diego Simeone's side have gained agreement to sign Gallagher for around £34m, and they are prepared to offer him a five-year contract in Madrid.

The 24-year-old is believed to have pursued the move after being made aware that he would be a squad player rather than a regular starter under new boss Enzo Maresca, and reported consultation with Kieran Trippier, who won the La Liga title with Los Rojiblancos.

Gallagher featured in 50 matches for the Blues last season, scoring seven goals and providing nine assists. He also wore the captain's armband for a large part of the season in the absence of Reece James.

More departures expected at Stamford Bridge this summer

While there have been mixed reactions around Gallagher's seemingly imminent sale, there are several reports suggesting that he will not be the only academy graduate to be moved on this summer.

Trevoh Chalobah was left out of the Blues' travelling squad to the USA and is heavily linked with a move to Craven Cottage this summer.

Armando Broja is another whose name has been mentioned to be on the chopping block, having failed to impress at Stamford Bridge again last season.

The Englishman and Albanian both came through the ranks at Chelsea, meaning their sales would represent pure profit for the club, which will help them maintain compliance with the Premier League's spending rules.

Some of the other homegrown talents that have been sold by the Blues in recent times are Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount, Billy Gilmour and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
