Chelsea to replace Jose Mourinho with Southampton boss Ronald Koeman?

Chelsea are reportedly considering hiring Southampton boss Ronald Koeman on a short-term basis in the event that Jose Mourinho is sacked.

Chelsea are reportedly considering appointing Southampton boss Ronald Koeman as a short-term replacement for Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach remains in charge at Stamford Bridge for the time being, but reports have claimed that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will hold an emergency meeting today.

Mourinho's side are just one point above the relegation zone after suffering nine defeats in 16 top-flight fixtures.

The West London outfit have been linked to numerous successful managers, including Pep Guardiola and Carlo Ancelotti, but according to The Telegraph, Chelsea could appoint Koeman on a temporary basis should they fail to land any of their main targets before the end of the season.

Chelsea's last result was a 2-1 defeat to surprise league leaders Leicester City.
