Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino feels that Jose Mourinho will consider a third-place finish in the Premier League next season as "failure".

The Blues won the Europa League last season but eventually finished behind Manchester City and 14 points worse off than eventual league winners Manchester United.

However, Cascarino, who played for the club from 1992 to 1994, feels that a similar finish next term will not be deemed a success by Mourinho.

"You have to win things [at Chelsea] and he will continue to do so," Cascarino told Sky Sports News.

"He'll get it right and they will challenge again. Third will be failure for him, he will see that as a failure and I think, so will the owner (Roman Abramovich).

"He will run any team close. He'll unite the team and he will do it brilliantly. He will also be judged on transfers. Manchester City got theirs wrong last season and it cost them dearly. He will get it right."

Mourinho was officially announced as Chelsea manager on Monday.

The Portuguese coach is settling into his second stint at Stamford Bridge having previously joined in 2004 before leaving in September 2007 after winning back-to-back Premier League titles in 2005 and 2006.
