Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly issued a new directive which will see players older than 30 only offered one-year contracts at Stamford Bridge.
Abramovich is keen to usher in a new era at Chelsea and plans to minimise the number of older players on long-term deals in west London, according to The People.
England international duo Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard are both out of contract next summer, and are free to talk to any club about their future from January.
Cole has been linked with a reunion with former Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain in recent weeks, while Lampard has been previously courted by Los Angeles Galaxy.
Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo, who has previously stated his desire to keep Cole at the club, has led Chelsea to the top of the table after six Premier League matches.
