Andre Schurrle came close to opening to scoring inside the first five minutes when Cesc Fabregas found the German with a through-ball, but his finish went just wide.
Against the run of play, the home side broke the deadlock with less than a quarter of an hour gone when Scott Arfield connected with a crossed ball on the half-volley to pick out the top corner.

Jose Mourinho's men were back on level terms just three minutes later when Burnley failed to clear, allowing Diego Costa to drill the ball in for his first Premier League goal.
Chelsea were ahead shortly after as Eden Hazard burst forward from midfield before finding Fabregas, who in turn set up Schurrle for a low strike into the bottom corner.

The visitors extended their lead in the 34th minute when Branislav Ivanovic lost his marker in the build-up to a corner, giving him space to volley the ball into the back of the net.
Danny Ings had a chance to pull one back for Burnley shortly before the break, but he flicked his effort just wide.
