Half-Time Report: Gary Cahill cancels out Emre Can strike

Gary Cahill gets Chelsea back on level terms after a deflected Emre Can strike gave Liverpool the lead at Anfield.

Chelsea have headed into half time level with Liverpool after cancelling out an early goal from the hosts at Anfield in the Premier League this afternoon.

The home side threatened from the start, with Emre Can seeing an early strike deflected behind by John Terry, before Philippe Coutinho had a volley saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Liverpool were ahead inside the opening 10 minutes though, as another deflected effort from Can got the better of Courtois when the long-range effort struck the back of Gary Cahill on the way through.

Cahill made amends at the other end just five minutes later, but goal-line technology was needed to confirm that his strike from close range had crossed the line, after Simon Mignolet tried to make the stop.

Mario Balotelli had the ball in the back of the net, but he was denied a first league goal for the hosts as he had drifted offside, while a chance for Raheem Sterling a few moments later was blocked by Cahill.

Chelsea started to dominate towards the end of the first half, but Diego Costa could only fire high, while a low Eden Hazard effort from the edge of the box was comfortably saved by Mignolet.
