Manchester City qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League after Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 at home against Sevilla in Group G this evening.

Manchester City have qualified for the last 16 of the Champions League after Borussia Dortmund drew 1-1 at home against Sevilla in Group G this evening.

The Citizens were held to a goalless draw with 10 men away against Copenhagen earlier this evening, a result which ended their perfect start to the group stage.

After Rodri saw a spectacular strike disallowed by VAR, Riyad Mahrez missed from the penalty spot before Sergio Gomez was sent off for a challenge as the last man, with all three incidents taking place in an action-packed first half.

Nevertheless, a point claimed by Pep Guardiola's side has seen them retain their place at the summit of Group G, and they required Dortmund to avoid defeat against Sevilla to confirm their place in the knockout rounds.

The La Liga outfit opened the scoring at Westfalenstadion when Tanguy Nianzou headed home in the 18th minute, but England international Jude Bellingham scored his fourth goal of the competition to restore parity for the hosts 10 minutes before half time.

Nether side could be separated in the second half and they were eventually forced to share the spoils, meaning that Man City are the first British team to qualify for the last 16 of this year's competition.

The Citizens sit at the top of Group G with 10 points, three points clear of Dortmund in second place, while both Sevilla and Copenhagen have picked up only two points from their four group fixtures.

Guardiola's men will advance to the last 16 as group winners if they can beat Dortmund in Germany in their penultimate fixture in two weeks' time.

City are not the only team to qualify for the last 16, as current holders Real Madrid have also progressed from the group stage with two games to spare despite playing out a 1-1 draw away against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Elsewhere, Chelsea climbed to the top of Group E after beating 10-man AC Milan 2-0 at San Siro, while Celtic's hopes of progressing from Group F are over after losing 2-0 at home to RB Leipzig.

Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Rangers are three more British teams in Champions League action on Wednesday, with the latter two locking horns at Ibrox in Group A while the former play host to Eintracht Frankfurt in Group D.
