Chelsea's Samuel Eto'o ruled out of semi-final first leg at Atletico Madrid

Samuel Eto'o will miss Chelsea's Champions League semi-final first leg with Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon Stadium on Tuesday after suffering a knee injury.

Samuel Eto'o will play no part in Chelsea's Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night after suffering a knee injury.

The 33-year-old Cameroonian forward did not travel with the rest of the Blues squad to Spain ahead of their meeting with the La Liga leaders.

Having scored the opening goal, he was substituted in the second half of the 2-1 defeat to Sunderland on Saturday, which ended Jose Mourinho's 78-match unbeaten Premier League record at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho will now likely choose between former Atletico striker Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, who has two goals in his last three games, to play as Chelsea's lone frontman at the Vicente Calderon Stadium.

Eto'o has scored 12 times in 36 appearances across all competitions for the Londoners this season.
