Chelsea edge past Notts County to lift FA Cup

Ji So-yun scores the winner as Chelsea beat Notts County to lift the Women's FA Cup final for the first time.

Chelsea have claimed a 1-0 victory over Notts County at Wembley to win the Women's FA Cup for the first time in their history.

In a cagey start to the match Chelsea were the first team to threaten, but after a powerful run into the box, Gemma Davison could only fire her low cross into the side-netting.

The Blues came close again in the 30th minute when Eniola Aluko latched on to a pass in behind the defence and rounded the keeper, before firing a strike wide from a tight angle.

Aluko threatened again five minutes later when she worked some room on the edge of the box and fired in a powerful effort that was beaten away by Carly Telford.

Chelsea continued to dominate and they created another chance when Aluko picked out Davison at the back post, but the winger was unable to turn the ball in from close range.

However, the Blues did manage to find the back of the net moments later, when the lively Aluko darted into the box and picked out Ji So-yun to poke the ball in from just a few yards out.

The Blues took their lead into the break, but County made a strong start to the second half and Leanne Crichton saw her header cleared off the line by Davison.

As the Magpies began to push more players forward in search of a goal, there was space for Chelsea to exploit on the break, and following a pacey run down the right, Aluko saw her low drive across goal parried to safety by Telford.

Chelsea had another chance to extend their lead soon after when Gilly Flaherty was found inside the box from Aluko's flick, but she could only turn the ball over the bar from a couple of yards out.

Despite those missed chances, the Blues were not made to pay, as they saw the game out to lift the first piece of major silverware in their history.
