John Collins: 'Virgil van Dijk to stay at Celtic for Champions League qualifiers'

Celtic assistant manager John Collins says that Virgil van Dijk will stay at the club for the Champions League qualifiers in July.

Celtic assistant manager John Collins has said that Virgil van Dijk will stay at Celtic until the Champions League qualifiers in July.

Van Dijk has been linked with a host of Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Everton, and the central defender has previously said that he is open to a move away from Parkhead.

"Virgil van Dijk is staying, certainly for the Champions League qualifiers," Collins told Sky Sports News.

"He has two years left on his contract. Everyone connected with Celtic loves Virgil. He's a great player and we want him to remain in a Celtic jersey this season.

"He is such an important and commanding player for us. He stops goals going in at one end and scores them at the other so we want to keep him."

Celtic will enter the Champions League at the second qualifying round.
