Assistant manager Johan Mjallby admits that Celtic may look towards Charlie Austin if Gary Hooper is sold before the transfer window closes.

Celtic's assistant manager Johan Mjallby has admitted that Burnely striker Charlie Austin would be a transfer target of the club if Gary Hooper was to leave this month.

Norwich City had a bid rejected for Hooper last week but reports have suggested that they will return with an improved offer over the coming days.

While Mjallby has insisted that Celtic are eager to keep hold of their leading goalscorer, he conceded that replacements have already been identified.

"We don't want Gary Hooper to leave and I think that he is very happy here. The only bid has been from Norwich but we expect there is going to be offers for our best players. The main thing is we want him to stay," he told reporters.

"It would be disappointing if Gary left but we'd have to get on with it. We have a shortlist for every position. [Austin] might be on the shortlist. Charlie is a proven goalscorer and he might come in handy in the future."

Austin has scored 19 goals in the Championship for Burnley this season.
