Hamilton Academical stun Celtic

Hamilton Academical move to the top of the Scottish Premiership after beating champions Celtic 1-0.

Hamilton Academical have stunned Celtic by claiming a 1-0 win over the Scottish champions at Celtic Park in the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

An open first 20 minutes saw chances for both sides, but John Guidetti fired wide for the hosts, while Daniel Redmond's strike for Hamilton was saved.

The champions started to see more of the possession before the break, but Jason Denayer could not beat Michael McGovern with a close-range header.

McGovern was kept busy as half time approached, with Anthony Stokes and Scott Brown both trying to give Celtic the lead, but the keeper frustrated the hosts.

The hosts continued to apply the pressure at the start of the second half, but a piece of quick thinking from Stephen Hendrie set up Ali Crawford for a low shot to put the visitors ahead, and made Crawford the top scorer in the league so far this season.

Kris Commons came close to getting Celtic back on level terms just three minutes later as he tried to curl the ball in from a free kick, but McGovern continued to keep the threat out.

Ronny Deila's side continued to create the majority of the chances as the second half progressed, but Stokes, Denayer and Leigh Griffiths all missed the target.

The result moves Hamilton to the top of the league, while Celtic sit sixth, six points behind.
