Celtic manager Neil Lennon says that he appreciates being touted as a possible contender for the Everton job, but insists that it is pure speculation.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon has played down his chances of becoming the new manager of Everton, but has insisted that he appreciates the recognition.

The 41-year-old was installed as the bookmakers' favourite to take the hotseat at Goodison Park due to David Moyes's impending move to Manchester United to take over from retiring Sir Alex Ferguson.

"That's all it is, speculation," BBC Sport quotes Lennon as saying. "I've got a great support, group of players and I'm happy here. We're already looking at Champions League preparation and bringing in new players.

"You never know what's around the corner but I'm in a stable job here with good backing from the board and a good group of players. Of course, it is nice recognition. Roberto Martinez was favourite yesterday and I'm favourite today, it could be someone else tomorrow."

Lennon has been at the helm of Celtic Park since 2010.
