Steven Gerrard tips Celtic for Champions League group stage

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard tips former boss Brendan Rodgers to lead Celtic into the Champions League group stages again next season.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has tipped his former manager Brendan Rodgers to lead Celtic to the group stages of the Champions League again next season.

The Hoops have enjoyed a stunning first season under ex-Reds boss Rodgers, going the entire domestic season campaign to win the Scottish Premiership by a 30-point margin and claim victories in the Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup.

It was a different story in Europe, however, as a tough group stage saw Rodgers's men fail to win any of their six fixtures against Barcelona, Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach.

"They've had an incredible season, going on to win the treble," Gerrard told BT Sport. "They are going to have to go through the qualifying process as well.

"But I think with Brendan in charge, they're playing very, very good football.

"The players love him and the confidence from winning the treble, hopefully they can get into the group stages and then try to get out."

Celtic begin qualifying for this year's competition in the second round in the second week of July.
