Celta Vigo beat Sevilla, go 2nd in La Liga with third win in four matches

A strong second-half showing from Sevilla is not enough to gain a point against Celta Vigo as first-half goals from Nolito and Daniel Wass handed the visitors a victory.

A much improved second-half performance from Sevilla was not enough to gain a point against Celta Vigo as first-half goals from Nolito and Daniel Wass proved enough for Eduardo Barizzo's men to claim another victory.

Moments after Wass had struck a warning shot just over Sevilla's crossbar, Nolito opened the scoring for Celta Vigo, beating centre-half Mariano before finding the bottom corner.

Wass, having found his range, then made it 2-0 to Celta in the 26th minute, firing past Sergio Rico in the Sevilla goal after being set up by Hugo Mallo.

Sevilla, having already introduced Michael Krohn-Dehli after 30 minutes, brought on former Juventus striker Fernando Llorente at half time for Ever Banega which resulted in a formation switch to 4-4-2.

The change in personnel produced instant rewards for Unai Emery's men as Mariano's cross found Llorente at the back post, the substitute making no mistake with his header.

Krohn-Dehli then attempted to make it two scoring substitutes from two but his long-range effort struck Sergio Alvarez's crossbar.

Celta, who were pinned back by their opponents for much of the second period, went close through Iago Aspas but Rico got a strong hand to the Celta forward's effort.

The home side continued to pressure Celta, having several penalty appeals rejected by the referee, but they were unable to find an equaliser.

Celta's third victory in four fixtures sees them move into 2nd place, with Barcelona to play later on Sunday, while Sevilla drop to 15th in the La Liga table.
