League Two roundup: Oxford United up to second

Sports Mole rounds up the day's League Two action as Oxford United hammer nine-man Stevenage to go second in the table.

Oxford United went second in League Two table with a 5-1 hammering of nine-man Stevenage this afternoon.

The home side cancelled out Ryan Taylor's 13th-minute opener thanks to Chris Whelpdale's effort, but they were reduced to 10 before the half-hour mark as Jamie McCombe saw red.

Liam Serecombe then netted for Oxford before Alex Macdonald struck after the hour mark.

Former Sheffield United midfielder Michael Tonge was sent off on 68 minutes before goals from Taylor and Kemar Roofe gave the visitors the points.

Plymouth Argyle are now five points clear at the top of the table after they recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Morecambe.

Goals from Graham Carey and Craig Tanner inside the first 12 minutes were enough for the Argyle.

Yeovil Town's two-goal lead was wiped out as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat away to Carlisle United.

Ryan Bird and Harry Cornick gave Yeovil a great start with goals inside the first 10 minutes, but Michael Raynes and Macaulay Gillesphey scored to even things up before the hour mark.

Raynes then added his second of the afternoon on 75 minutes to move Carlisle up to eighth in the division.

Josh Windass's eighth goal of the campaign was enough for Accrington as they beat Leyton Orient 1-0.

The day's early kickoff saw Crawley Town edge out York City 1-0 thanks to Simon Walton's 86th-minute winner.

AFC Wimbldeon recorded a 2-0 win over Hartlepool United in the 2pm game, with the home side's efforts coming from Lyle Taylor and Callum Kennedy.

Third-placed Portsmouth slipped to a 2-1 defeat to Notts County, despite taking the lead at Meadow Lane.

Caolan Lavery gave visiting Pompey the lead on 19 minutes, but the goal was quickly cancelled out through Graham Burke.

Alan Sheehan then stabbed home from a free-kick delivery to give Notts the win.

Northampton Town took a two-goal lead against Newport County, but the home side responded to earn a share of the spoils.

Sam Hoskins and Marc Richards gave the visitors the advantage inside the half-hour mark, but goals from Lenell John-Lewis and Scott Barrow restored parity.

Barnet beat Exeter City 2-0 at Underhill as Josh Clarke added to Troy Brown's own goal.

Wycombe Wanderers are now just one point off the play-off places after they beat Mansfield Town 2-0.

Aaron Holloway added to Luke O'Nien's early opener deep into stoppage time.

Results in full: Crawley 1-0 York, Wimbledon 2-0 Hartlepool, Barnet 2-0 Exeter, Carlisle 3-2 Yeovil, Leyton Orient 0-1 Accrington Stanley, Mansfield 0-2 Wycombe, Newport 2-2 Northampton, Notts County 2-1 Portsmouth, Plymouth 2-0 Morecambe, Stevenage 1-5 Oxford.
