Bolton Wanderers too strong for Cardiff City

Two goals from Liam Feeney help Bolton Wanderers to a convincing 3-0 victory over Cardiff City.

Bolton Wanderers remain in the relegation zone despite recording an emphatic 3-0 win over Cardiff City this evening.

Liam Feeney struck twice during the first half before Matt Mills added a third late on to continue their impressive form under new boss Neil Lennon.

Feeney, who had been recalled to the side by Lennon, had gone 18 goals without scoring for Bolton but that run came to an end when he gave the Trotters the lead after nine minutes.

A cross was whipped into the middle by Lee Chung-yong which allowed the midfielder to convert the ball past David Marshall.

Bolton pushed for a second, with Matt Mills having a header cleared off the line by Craig Noone, but Cardiff almost equalised when Federico Macheda brought a fine save out of Andy Lonergan.

However, Feeney bagged his second before the break when he got on the end of Darren Pratley's delivery to volley past Marshall.

Cardiff returned for the second half with more ambition, with Macheda forcing a stop out of Lonergan and John Brayford blazing over from distance.

A similar pattern continued throughout the third quarter of the game, with Macheda being denied by a last-ditch tackle by Mills, but Bolton improved as the half wore on and Feeney should have completed his hat-trick after being set up by Craig Davies.

However, with 14 minutes remaining, Bolton sealed just their third home win of the season when Mills's miscued effort trickled past Marshall from close range for his fourth of the campaign.

Bolton pushed for a fourth late on but Lennon will be delighted to add his third win in five games in charge at the North-West club.
