Zander Diamond nearing Burton Albion return

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett confirms that defender Zander Diamond is close to a first-team return.

Burton Albion manager Gary Rowett has confirmed that defender Zander Diamond is close to a first-team comeback.

The 28-year-old damaged ligaments in his foot during pre-season, but he returned to action in Monday's friendly against Leicester City.

"He trained three days last week and it was always the plan for him to play in this game. We haven't rushed him back and he did well in the game. I think Zander's fit enough [to play] now," Rowett told the club's official website.

Burton, who host Portsmouth this weekend, currently sit sixth in the League Two table.
