Jason Gilchrist strike gives Burnley win

A second-half goal from Jason Gilchrist gives Burnley a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in a pre-season friendly.

A second-half strike from Jason Gilchrist has given Burnley a 1-0 win over Accrington Stanley in a pre-season friendly this afternoon.

Burnley thought that they had taken the lead just over 20 minutes into the tie when Danny Ings powered the ball into the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

Jayden Hall also had an effort shortly before half time, but Dean Winnard managed to stop the ball on the line for the League Two side.

The new Premier League outfit made wholesale changes for the second half, but it was the hosts who created the first chance after the break with Josh Windass almost finding the target with a free kick.

However, the visitors were finally able to take the lead with just over 15 minutes still to play when Scott Arfield made a break down the right to set up Gilchrist for a simple tap-in.

Arfield came close to doubling their advantage himself just a couple of minutes later, but Adam Buxton made the block for Accrington. However, one goal proved enough for Burnely to claim the win.
