Danny Ings named Championship Player of the Year

Burnley hitman Danny Ings is named as the Football League Player of the Year for the Championship this season.

Burnley hitman Danny Ings has been named as the Football League Player of the Year for the Championship this season.

The 22-year-old picked up the prestigious award at a ceremony at The Brewery in London, having hit 25 goals for the Clarets so far this term.

Ings edged out the competition of Leicester City's Danny Drinkwater and Leeds United's Ross McCormack, and the striker highlighted the contribution of his teammates in helping him beat his rivals.

He said on the night: "Sam Vokes, my strike partner, has chipped in with a lot of goals too for a target man and I could talk about the team all night.

"We have such a good team ethic and we work hard for each other which is why we have been successful."

Burnley are heavily tipped to earn promotion into England's top flight this season, with Sean Dyche's men sitting second in the standings, 10 points clear of the playoff places.

The former Bournemouth youth was linked with a move to Premier League giants Liverpool in the January transfer window.
