Burnley confirm serious Ashley Barnes knee injury

Burnley confirm that Ashley Barnes is likely to miss the majority of next season after suffering a double knee ligament injury.

Burnley have confirmed that Ashley Barnes is likely to miss the majority of next season after suffering a double knee ligament injury on the final day of the Premier League season.

Scans today have revealed that the 25-year-old suffered anterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament damage during the 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday.

He is the fourth Burnley player to suffer a cruciate knee injury in the last 14 months, following Sam Vokes, Kevin Long and Dean Marney.

"To say this is bad luck is an understatement," Clarets boss Sean Dyche told the club website.

"They have been innocuous incidents that have ended up with four serious injuries and it's an incredible misfortune.

"Obviously it's a big blow and our thoughts are with Ashley."

Barnes, who scored five Premier League goals as Burnley were relegated in their first season back in the top flight, will have an operation on the injury next week.
