Bristol Rovers have announced that they have signed former Oldham Athletic midfielder Cristian Montano, subject to international clearance.
The Colombian had his contract with the Latics terminated in December 2013 after he was arrested as part of a spot-fixing investigation, only for the Crown Prosecution Service to drop the case.
Manager Darrell Clarke told the newly-promoted League Two side's website: "He comes with quite a lot of baggage. I know that he is desperate for another opportunity to play league football and I'm a firm believer in giving everyone a second chance."
Chairman Nick Higgs added: "I agree with Darrell in that everyone deserves a second chance and I would like to welcome Cristian to Bristol Rovers and hope that he enjoys a successful career with us."
Montano, who was one of 13 footballers arrested as part of the case, denied any wrongdoing.
