Hull City go top with fifth consecutive win at Brentford

Brentford suffer their first defeat in five games as they lose 2-0 at home to Hull City, who move to the top of the Championship table.

Hull City have moved to the top of the Championship after extending their winning streak to five games with a 2-0 victory at Brentford this evening.

The hosts started brightly and Allan McGregor had to be alert to push away Marco Djuricin's second-minute strike.

Brentford continued to push forward and Ryan Woods flashed an effort wide before McGregor denied Djuricin once more with his feet.

John Swift then fired a free kick at McGregor, while Lasse Vibe saw his shot fly wide of the post in the 30th minute.

Djuricin continued to threaten after the interval as he fired just wide in the 47th minute.

Hull were quiet for an hour, but took the lead with little more than 20 minutes remaining as Andrew Robertson thumped a low strike beyond the reach of David Button.

Brentford almost hit back immediately, but substitute Konstantin Kerschbaumer rattled the upright before Woods fired the rebound over the bar.

As the hosts pushed more men forward, they left more gaps at the back and Hull pounced to wrap up the win with four minutes remaining as Sam Clucas rifled home after Button had spilled Harry Maguire's shot.
