Brazil manager Luiz Felipe Scolari has insisted that his side need to be given time to gel after their defeat to England on Wednesday.

In his first match of his second stint in charge of the national side, the South Americans lost 2-1 at Wembley courtesy of goals from Wayne Rooney and Frank Lampard, in a match that saw Ronaldinho's first-half penalty saved.

With the side consisting of players both playing in Europe starting out in Brazil, Scolari is adamant that his side need more time to work together.

"The opponents covered more space, Neymar was opening the spaces but could not make an impact," Sky Sports News quotes Scolari as saying.

"He won't be able to before February or March, when everyone will be better.

"Ronaldinho just played 90 minutes in Brazil, it's normal that he isn't in the conditions we wanted, but if he keeps doing well for his team, he will easily keep getting called up."

The match was Brazil's first defeat to England since 1990.
