Eddie Howe taking Bournemouth spending "very seriously"

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe insists that he is taking the club's January spending "very seriously" after making several big-money buys.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has insisted that he is taking the club's January spending "very seriously" after making multiple big-money signings this month.

The Cherries have been the busiest Premier League club in the January transfer window, making three signings so far.

All three have been attack-minded, with Juan Iturbe joining on loan from Roma and strikers Benik Afobe and Lewis Grabban arriving on permanent deals from Wolverhampton Wanderers and Norwich City respectively.

Afobe's fee is reported to have been a club-record £11m, while Grabban's return just 18 months after he left the Cherries for Norwich is thought to be around £7m.

"I take every penny we spend very seriously as well as the responsibility which comes with that, and try to make good decisions for the football club, not just for now, but for the long term," PA quotes Howe as saying.

"It is important that we look beyond this season as it is not just about the here and now, and hopefully we get the major decisions right."

Afobe started last night's 3-1 defeat to West Ham United, while Iturbe and Grabban both made their debuts off the bench.
