Adam Smith pens new four-year deal with Bournemouth

Bournemouth defender Adam Smith signs a new four-year deal with the club to end any talk of a return to former side Tottenham Hotspur.

Bournemouth have announced that full-back Adam Smith has committed his long-term future to the club by putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The 26-year-old, who has made 113 appearances for the Cherries since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014, will remain on the south coast for the next four years.

Smith was linked with a return to his former club earlier this summer after an impressive campaign last time out, admitting at the time that he was 'flattered' by the speculation.

An agreement has now been reached between the former England Under-21s international and Bournemouth over a new deal, however, which boss Eddie Howe admits is key to his future plans.

"When we first brought Adam to the club we believed he had huge potential," he told the club's official website. "Adam has taken his opportunity, improved as a player and is an important member of our squad.

"We're delighted he will stay with us and hopefully continue his progression further."

Smith added: "I'm delighted. I'm settled in the area and get along really well with the lads. There is nowhere else I want to be at this moment. Everything is going well for me both on and off the pitch and I'm looking forward to that continuing."

The English defender appeared 36 times for Bournemouth in the top flight last season, playing a direct part in six goals down the flank.
