Eddie Howe delighted with Bournemouth progress

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe hails his side's "incredible" progress after winning their opening match of a Premier League season for the first time.

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has hailed the "incredible" progress the club has made over the past decade following their 2-0 victory over Cardiff City this afternoon.

The Cherries recorded an opening-day win in the Premier League for the first time in their history courtesy of goals from Ryan Fraser and Callum Wilson, 10 years after starting a League Two campaign with a 17-point deduction.

Howe acknowledged that the club is "unrecognisable" from that 2008-09 campaign and set his sights on continuing to build for the future in an effort to prolong their success.

"That season is etched in my memory because it was just incredible what happened. From that moment to this, this club's unrecognisable. So much has happened, if you'd sat someone down and said this will be the next 10 years for this football club, you'd have carted them off and said they were mad," he told reporters.

"It just goes to show what can happen in football. As much as we are pleased and happy with today, we have to remain very level-headed. We need to build the football club to make it stronger over a long period of time.

"Full respect for Cardiff because they gave everything to the match and it was very competitive. We controlled the first half without really opening them up as much as we would have wanted to but two moments of quality win us the game in the end."

Bournemouth's victory leaves them second in the Premier League table after the opening Saturday of the season.
