Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic insists that he is "confident" his side will improve following their 2-0 opening weekend defeat at home to Crystal Palace.

Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has said that he is "confident" his side will improve following their season-opening 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace this afternoon.

The newly-promoted Cottagers went into the new campaign tipped by many to impress following a summer spending spree, but goals from Jeffrey Schlupp and Wilfried Zaha saw them get off to a losing start in the London derby at Craven Cottage.

However, Jokanovic handed debuts to six new players during the match - Jean Michael Seri, Joe Bryan, Fabri, Maxime Le Marchand, Calum Chambers and Andre Schurrle - and he insists that things will get better once the new arrivals settle in.

"These new players have had two training sessions. Joe Bryan has only had one session with us, Vietto as well. I trust we will play better than we played today. We'll work hard and adapt ourselves for the games ahead," Jokanovic told reporters.

"I'm confident. It's a tough job ahead of us. So we must be optimists and trust in ourselves. We showed we can be brave, but were a bit shy in the end. We had 15 shots to Palace's 10. We did some interesting things in the game, too.

"[Seri] showed the quality on his first test at this level. Adapting to this competition is not easy. But he showed the quality he's got and is comfortable with the ball."

Fulham's next match is also a London derby against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley next weekend.
