Borussia Dortmud are beating Liverpool in the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to a report.

Borussia Dortmund have edged ahead of Liverpool in the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to a report.

Both teams have reportedly met the terms of the 24-year-old's release clause, which is believed to be in the region of £19m.

However, the Bundesliga side are making a concerted effort to beat the Reds to his signature by attempting to quickly push a deal through, reports Goal.com

Mkhitaryan scored 25 goals for Donetsk last season in the Ukrainian Premier League.
