Borussia Dortmund chief hints at Mario Gotze U-turn

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke suggests that playmaker Mario Gotze may not depart the Westfalenstadion at the end of the season.

Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has suggested that Mario Gotze could still remain at the Westfalenstadion past the end of this season.

Having only been used as a bit-part player this campaign, Gotze hinted earlier this month that he would be leaving the German giants when his contract expires in the summer.

However, with clubs potentially changing their strategies in light of the coronavirus pandemic, it appears that Dortmund are interested in retaining the World Cup winner's services.

Watzke told Sky Deutschland: "Everything is on ice at the moment, but it is clear that the conversation with Mario will be resumed at some point."

Gotze has scored three goals from just six starts and 12 substitute outings in all competitions this season.

Everton, AC Milan and Roma have previously been credited with an interest in the 27-year-old's signature.
