Late Thomas Ince penalty rescues point for Blackpool

Thomas Ince buries a stoppage-time penalty as Blackpool draw 2-2 with Leicester City in the Championship.

An injury-time penalty from Thomas Ince rescued a point for Blackpool in their 2-2 draw with Leicester City in the Championship.

The home side came close to opening the scoring in the 10th minute when neat footwork from Stephen Dobbie carved out a chance for Ricardo Fuller, but the striker's effort was saved by Kasper Schmeichel.

Blackpool took the lead in the 19th minute through Chris Basham, who headed home a Fuller cross from six yards out.

There were chances for both teams after the deadlock was broken, with Anthony Knockaert and Andy King coming close for the Foxes, while Basham was a constant nuisance at the other end.

Ince thought that he had put away a second for Blackpool ahead of the half-time whistle, but his strike was ruled out for offside.

Leicester came agonisingly close to an equaliser 10 minutes into the second half when David Nugent laid the ball on a plate for Jamie Vardy inside the six-yard box, only to watch his teammate drag a shot wide.

The Foxes were by far the better team in the second period and got the equaliser they deserved from the penalty spot after Jack Robinson brought down Danny Drinkwater in the area.

Paul Konchesky kept his nerve to put away the resultant spot kick and send the away supporters into a frenzy, but there was even better to come for the visitors.

Blackpool were still reeling from the penalty when King netted an absolute screamer with 15 minutes remaining to make it 2-1 to Leicester.

However, the was another twist in the match as Schmeichel sent Gary MacKenzie tumbling in the box, allowing Ince to step up and rescue a point for his father in stoppage time.
